Poorly convieved documentary I must admit that I sat open mouthed and just gawped at all 4 episodes of “The Scheme”. This is a lifestyle I simply don’t recognize and a type of people who, at first sight, are… alien. Disillusioned, desperate, misguided, and living in a world which, from the comfort of my living room, seemed to be entirely lacking in beauty and colour. It is a harsh life it seems; some of these individuals walk a tight-rope between life and death. I’m not going to judge them on moral grounds. They live lives which have meaning to them. But I will judge the quality of this programme: what I object to is the voice-over commentary and the musical score used. The narration belittles the residents of the scheme – not in an overt way, but through suggestion. But is the music that offended me most – especially the perky, silly little tune (ok, so it’s by Prokofiev) played whenever Marvin or Chris was on screen; this encouraged us to laugh at them, prevented us from taking them seriously. I like documentaries; I like it when documentaries are hard hitting and make us think. “The Scheme” had every potential to change ideas but instead it turned the residents into living cartoon characters. And don't forget ... This was filmed in the posh part of Kilmarnock. ShoogleMaBoogle9:40pm Thu 26 May
Jobs if there were enough jobs going round these folk wouldn't be in such a state. the Scottish economy needs a total shock to the system before any of this will stop. anywhere in the world if you have whole communities of people without work, its drugs, drink or violence. fair enough in afghanistan, but shocking that it happens in a so-called developed nation. Sad but true You can take your pick of any number of "scheme's" around Scotland and this is what you will find. Sad but true. These people have not had a great upbringing, I know, I grew up in one, and although I am not condoning what goes on, Scotland needs to fight this together instead of blaming those that have had the misfortune to be born into that. Scotland needs to start looking inward and solve its own problems and forget everything else. madscot12:20am Wed 25 May
it happens everywhere gordon and annie are just like any other parents of thier generation, they told it like it is and anyone in thier situation that says different is talking crap, my hat goes off to them, keep up the good work, we can only try our best with our kids. mgbgb11:48pm Tue 24 May
For poppy, open your eyes for all people say this shouldnt be shown, it has opened the eyes of many, lol some fools even think these people are the exception. think hard why are there certain areas in YOUR town you wouldnt go near ? there is a scheme in every uk town, we need to deal with it, not moan about a tv show. Most people only care about social issue's when it has affected them personally. why wait ? demand an end to this culture, stop the money, stop the drug dealers ( cops have no interest in what goes on in scheme's they wont even let these poor people report crimes) and we may be able to save their kids, sadly most of the adults dont want to change, I should know i grew up in a scheme not that diff and i still know people like these, we cant help them but we can give the kids a shot at life before they grow up and steal our car steroes brutaldeluxeuk8:16pm Tue 24 May

Disgrace I am digusted that a programme such as 'The Scheme' has been aired. These are the very people who are bleeding this country dry through the benefit system. Like all taxpayers I am disgusted that my hard work pays for these parasites to own fancy tv's, funding shopping trips and paying for drugs and drink. Genuine people are losing their jobs every day and being affected by inflation and the enonomic downturn, of course these people are the exception - they are thriving by having more kids with no intention of working what-so-ever. This programme is sickening. Poppy11:27pm Tue 17 May
Sums up Britain's problems... None of them have jobs yet all have massive tellys and look like they smoke around 300 cigarettes a day. The government needs to make cutbacks so why not stop paying for these scumbags to live. No respect, nothing but trouble. To be fair though, is quite entertaining telly! Stavros8:11pm Wed 26 May

shocking Well what can i say.....Kay needs to get her self sorted, take her kid to school, and stop having all the freaks living with her,it is not setting a good example for the youngest kid.Lying to police then admiting it on tv.
The Cunningham family, well parents and daughter seem ok,but the wee ned chris, what a joke, had to laugh at him climbing out the window!!
Cant believe all these folk are happy to prove to the nation that they are scum, junkies, etc.

get your own life in order KAY needs to get out her bed in the morning and take her daughter to school herself and get her own life on track instead of taking on other peoples problems.Marvin looks awfully thin for someone on methadone as i heard it makes you put on weight,i have seen better looking skeleton's.Gordon and annie are doing their best seem like a good couple suede11:37pm Tue 18 May
