most bits good Thought the fuss about getting a town to switch off its lights was completely pointless to make as viewing. Not to mention utterly boring..Was wasted time that could have been used better. bollark12:38am Fri 27 Jan

Aliens? Great........ I thoroughly enjoyed this show, up until the start of the third episode which announced they would be covering "Life on other planets....."
I was hoping to learn more about astronomy and the fascinating facts that the fantastic Brian Cox could wow me with. I was not interested in what could have been on the Discovery channel any night of the week regarding the possibility of aliens. However, it was still a great show and despite the interuptions thought that Dara was a good host and link man.
Everyone seems to be having a go at him for dumbing it down and the fact he is just a comedian. He is in fact a comedian with a degree in theoretical physics!
And with the BBC (Other than BBC Four), what isn't dumbed down these days? Beefcake12:58pm Wed 25 Jan
"Star Gear" Why has the BBC chosen to present this programme in a " Top Gear" format?
It needs calming down so you can take in what the Professor is explaining to us in a very absorbing way. He's heading towards being as good as Attenborough in his own way and that great man didn't need a comedian on his shoulder to keep us all interested ! Jim Burke6:03pm Sun 22 Jan
Please no more Dara! What in earth was Dara doing on the programme? Constantly talking over Brian and really annoying... And please, someone tell him to take his hands out of his pockets. Could watch and listen to Brian all day, Dara ruined the programme :( Livilouu7:08am Sun 22 Jan
Love the prof Professor Brian Cox can't do anything wrong in my eyes. His programmes and he himself are
amazing, Dara really did spoil this show for me. Brian was almost just a guest rather than co host. Paula10:11pm Fri 20 Jan
Anticlimax We had been really looking forward to this year's series, but it was not as good as last year. Yes, BC is great but Dara was unhelpful. Speaking far too fast, difficult to listen to anyway and he kept on interrupting BC.
The programmes seemed to be too much about aliens, rather than stars and stargazing. Great shame. Chris6:54pm Thu 19 Jan
how to ruin a programme great programme found it totally frustrating with dara overtalking brian also dara is not listenable when talking fast nor knowledgeable on astronamy bear5:11pm Thu 19 Jan
Star gazing The emphasis should be on the celestial stars not the celebrity stars! More constellations and less consternations please. janie4:45pm Thu 19 Jan
fantastic, very interesting and important series a few things to people being negative about this.
1. the point of this is, is not to develop the knowledge of people who already know a lot about the subject matter, the point of the show is to bring this to the mainstream, to interest people in what is beyond us and explain the basic principles to us.
2. Dara is a great choice for the show. he knows about the subject matter because of his degree, he is funny, but ultimately his naiivety about the more complex elements give the viewer a way in and he acts as your guide.
3. the special effects are fantastic, the topics are interesting, it is making people think about what is beyond us and that can only be a good thing.

Get rid of Dara Previous programs with Brian Cox have been very good, partly due to his relaxed and authentic style of presentation. Dara on the other hand is an egotistic child, constantly trying to prove that he's intelligent. When he speaks my mind switches off, AWFUL Waistcoat9:58pm Wed 18 Jan
stargazing Only One word. EXCELLENT
The only programme worth payong my TV licence for. Boo9:40pm Wed 18 Jan
Indistinct Dara's accent and rushed cabbled words are no use at all.Remove him as not suitable. Thank you. Nick.9:30pm Wed 18 Jan
Dara O'Brian Dara O'Brian ruins this programme for me. If it was just Brian Cox presenting I watch it. but not with the O'Brian clown in it- he adds nothing. David Chadwell Heath7:54pm Wed 18 Jan
Presenters Dara is not there to be funny.... He did theoretical physics at UCL Dublin, he might be a contemporary of Brian Cox if he werent a comedian. alexL 8:10pm Tue 17 Jan
Ignorant simpletons Dara O'Briain has a degree in Mathematical Physics!
All the people moaning there shouldn't be a 'comedian' on the show need to stfu. kobrakai6:54pm Tue 17 Jan
Stargazing live Should be on tv once or twice every week Gibbi6:37pm Tue 17 Jan
Totally Boring What a dissapointment, totally spoiled by Dara O'Briain and other wanna be presenters dumming it down. It was totally boring. I really enjoyed Brian Cox's previous programmes but not this one. I can only put it down to the BBC thinking that more is better, no, less is better. Leave it to Brian Cox please. Liam25:58pm Tue 17 Jan
Excellent Stargazing Great programme and sprinkled with a little comedy. Great TV. Celestron3:22pm Tue 17 Jan
stargazing I was expecting to see live stargazing. That would have been more interesting. boo9:26am Tue 17 Jan
annoyance maximus The two most annoying people on TV. No chance im watching this. James Mason8:24pm Mon 16 Jan
won't be watching this if this series was just presented by Prof Brian Cox, i would watch it, but his intelligence and the audience's interest is spoiled by the so-called comedian. Why does the BBC have to include anyone else? with Brian Cox and the stars above you have a perfect combination. sybylla4:55pm Mon 16 Jan
Brilliant Brian O'Briain & Ross please leave it to Brian Cox, as he is too polite to tell you where to go, I'll tell you ..... back to what you know - 2nd rate "comedy" and as 90% of these comments say the same, why are you not listening BBC ? BC fan1:17pm Wed 11 Jan
BBC why do the bbc feel the need to introduce a 'comedian' to co host this sort of programme is beyond me...leave to mr cox, a natural orator and great explanar of all things scientific! starman6:12pm Mon 17 Jan
This is NOT 'Mock the Solar System' No need for silly behaviour on a programme like this. Totally ruined it for me. Just leave it to the Prof (Brian Cox) - I could listen to him all day. Dara O'Briain and Jonnie Ross are all well and good on comedy shows - not here. Whichever dipstick thought it would be a good idea needs banishing to the dark side of the moon! Darth Effin Vader12:32am Thu 13 Jan
More Please! Great show at a great timeslot. More of the same please BBC. I think Dara was good on the show and helped bridge the gap between the scientists and the general public and helped to keep explanations simple and easy to understand. Jim Bob7:45pm Wed 12 Jan
Brian is BRILLIANT ......... BRILLIANT!!! All of Brians shows are unmissable for me. He makes a very complex subject so fascinating and really look forward to the next one. One thing, get rid of Dara and Jonathan Ross. They just got in the way of Brian and the other experts and took up valuable time!!!!!! Seraph12:58pm Fri 7 Jan
stargazing Congratulations to the BBC for putting on a truly wonderful show. Please show more of this and Brian Cox who makes it so "down to earth"and understandable. I can do without the constant chatter of Jonathan and Dara. They really have np place on a show where people watch to learn something Darlene9:10am Thu 6 Jan
Cool Should have this on more as a regular programme... Brian cox as always is excellent..Dara kept the programme rolling tho he's no stranger to hosting programmes & knows what timing means in television (for you who say he talked over brian)& the lovely liz Bonnin.....great programme & a nice change to the usual insipidness of mundane moronic television. Frolin4:44am Thu 6 Jan
didn't need dara or jonathon this programme would have been great if it wasn't for the cocky Irishman that kept cutting brian off and constantly talking over him. I just didn't get him?? And as for Jonothan Ross..... Too many cooks spoil the broth! This would have been perfect with just the other presenters who were great and had a genuine enthusiasm for the subject! CG9:36pm Wed 5 Jan
4 star stargazing Well done Auntie, good start. Now polish it for the next time. The format didn't need z list celebs (Ross). Didn't need Dara as a continuity man. Why do producers think that every programme needs wannabe celebs.
I have a brain I don't need my tv dumbed down. starburst9:19pm Wed 5 Jan
Get Off Ross Just get him off!!!! tintin9:00pm Wed 5 Jan
Get off Dara's Case I like Dara, and you need someone like him to keep the ball rolling and meet the time markers each segment is alotted in a program with many components that have to be got through.
Dara does seem to cut Brian short a lot though, which suggests not that Dara's a big eejit, but that the producers really didn't alot enough time to let Brian unfold the always interesting explainations he has in his posession to give us.
The show, basically needed to be a half hour longer, and Brian given a bit more room and latitude to inform and entertain us. roo8:17pm Wed 5 Jan
Great ***** Just wish they hadnt bothered with Dara O Briain and left it to Brian Cox . NorthWest8:04pm Wed 5 Jan
please gag Dara I like Dara in context, but someone please stop him talking over Brian when people are trying to listen to him impart his wisdom. tellytoobie7:04pm Wed 5 Jan
Pity about the sidekicks I enjoy anything with Prof Brian Cox in but find Dara and Ross both incredibly irritating - it spoils my enjoyment. starrider6:09pm Wed 5 Jan
Cox is the star Well done Brian. Another of your programmes delivered brilliantly and with the enthusiasm to inspire. Is this a way for Mr Ross to try to worm his way back into favour with the public?
Stellaviewer5:46pm Wed 5 Jan
Dumbing Down This would be a truly fascinating programme if they would just let the experts get on with it. Why do we have to have both O'Briain and Ross with their inane comments interrupting some seriously good tv. Dog Dylan4:42pm Wed 5 Jan
Excellent intro well done Beeb, at last something I don't mind paying my licence fee for - more of the same please. Evemurray2:19pm Wed 5 Jan
Why the so called celebs? this would have been a good programme if it hadn't been for the likes of Johnafan Wross. Why do these people have to get involved? Chantemerlière12:12pm Wed 5 Jan
Disappointing An Easter Egg of a program; lots of packaging and little substance. Rossie acted the prat as usual and Liz Bonnin conducted really annoying interviews and added zero value. Really disappointed by something that could have been so interesting.
Davey Boy11:20am Wed 5 Jan
Dara Dara actually has a degree in theoretical physics from UCD.
Okay it isn't cosmology or astrophysics but he's not the idiot some think he is.
Programmes like these if they serve as an introduction to astronomy for the general public are welcome. Brian11:04am Wed 5 Jan
Fantastic Duo - Stargazing. Brian Cox is fascinating and speaks in laymens terms. Dara is a gem and is not there just to attract a bigger sudience but because he is interested in the subject and is being used as the professional, experienced link between different segments of the programme. Brian Cox is not yet an experienced LIVE TV presenter. Well done the Beeb. raine10:49pm Tue 4 Jan
Dara "Errmm" Briain I like star gazing, but I can't watch anything with Dara in. Every time he thinks he says something funny he goes "Errmm" to tell the audience when to laugh. Koala Badman8:20pm Tue 4 Jan
Great TV Viewing ! Would have been a lot better if it had just been left to Brian Cox to present but i still enjoyed it . NW8:13pm Tue 4 Jan
Errr... I'm not dead yet. Watch the Sky At Night instead. Keep truckin' Sir Patrick Moore8:04pm Tue 4 Jan
Ruined by the hangers-on. I was looking forward to hearing Brian Cox, because he is excellent. Couldn't hear him because of O'Briain's futile interruptions and Ross is a bore. Had to turn it off and shan't watch subsequent programmes. Bore by O Briain and Ross6:32pm Tue 4 Jan
Liz Bonnin? What knowledge or analysis does she contribute? Plenty of comments about Dara and Woss, but her interviewing technique of replying 'excellent' (etc) before the person has even finished speaking is annoying and makes her look even more clueless than she is. knowledgeable presenters pls5:43pm Tue 4 Jan
stargazing Brian Cox has proved himself to be excellent
at explaining the universe.
Dara is completely out of his depth.Leave it to the expert.
Lynny5:31pm Tue 4 Jan
Dumbing Down! Why do you need a comedien to front a programme like this when Proff Brian Cox is quite able to present it on his own as we have seen previously! Francine3:51pm Tue 4 Jan
Stargazing Brian Cox is very interesting because he knows his subject and can speak clearly. Dara O Briain cannot speak clearly so is not the person to be with Brian. Dorothy1:52pm Tue 4 Jan
