Brilliant Best thing I've seen on TV for ages. I'd read the book and it's actually a very good portrayal. Well directed. I gave it 10/10! Matt4:54pm Thu 17 May

Brilliant For those of you who only watched the first episode I feel sorry for you. This was one of the best things shown on Tv for a long time now. The landscape views of war are the best ive seen on TV or film. Well done to all involved!!! J.A.C8:08am Sun 26 Feb
Outstanding Concerned that it wouldn't live up to the book. Simply oustanding. Well done to the Beeb and all involved. Mesmerising. Longshanks10:24am Sat 25 Feb
Speak Up My favourite book and visually a good adaptation. Spoilt by the mumbling dialogue of the cast. Totally incomprehensible in the trenches.Back to stage school for most of the cast. Mumblers5:29pm Tue 31 Jan
Thought I was going deaf I struggled hard to follow a lot of this drama but often could not understand the mumbling dialogue especially from the main character, A pity as it spoilt the whole thing. Annie9:18pm Mon 30 Jan
Utterly Brilliant! What a superb drama, in every sense! I totally enjoyed it, even the silences that some people found so boring. They helped to create the tension and 'electricity' that existed between the couple. Sometimes quiet moments are far superior to unnecessary dialogue and have a beauty of their own. It's a shame that so many people could not appreciate this fact. Linda K8:35pm Mon 30 Jan
Speachless in Picardy! - should have been the title for this epic. And when they did speak it was such a mumble it was unintelligeable! Pity about the war, quite unbelieveable Muscateer4:52pm Mon 30 Jan
Tedious rubbish What a yawn, its niether one thing nor the other. Lacks any believable characters or dialogue. Boring and dull. ElHoggo11:54am Mon 30 Jan
Birdsong Brilliant. I enjoyed very much. So nice to see a programme with true grit and what the war was like. Good acting. Sarah D12:04am Mon 30 Jan
prelonged stares The prelonged stares in this adaptation were agonising and got in the way of what is a powerful portrayal of the first world war and a compelling romance. We watched both parts because it was good, but we could hardly bear another silent stare - more dialogue would not have detracted from the power of war and we would have understood the relationship better. Agree with all the comments that it was hard to hear when they actually did speak. I now need to read the book! Pots10:41pm Sun 29 Jan
Snoring song I've never watched such a tedious display of non act and lack of talent, if this is the best the beeb can do, they should give up. Off to donate to the Samaritans as I'm sure they've never been so busy. Noddy of norfolk10:37pm Sun 29 Jan
Poor dialogue and acting Firebrace is a really poor choice - his face seems incapable of expression, consequently all those lingering close-ups don't work. I switched off after 30 mins. Annie10:07pm Sun 29 Jan
stunning stunning, but hard to watch, only because the subject matter was so distressing, so looking forward to this evening! shellie5:35pm Sun 29 Jan
Grans view. is it me or was it very hard to understand the what they were saying , i ended up watching with sub titles Gerry T10:18pm Sat 28 Jan
AMAZING! I absolutely loved Birdsong!! Everythign about it was amazing! The characters, the script, the setting!! can't wait for part 2! Only downside- having to wait a week to watch it!! monamour7:23pm Thu 26 Jan
firebrace steals the show Firebrace steals the show. What else is possible to say? This is a very odd story, with Stephen and Isabelle locked in an embrace that all too soon will dissolve into the common sadomasochism of the world portrayed here. Not Firebrace. Honest. Suffering. Loving loyally. And brave. Rowan11:51pm Wed 25 Jan
Excellent ! Beautiful Adaptation of the book. Well done to all! Daisy7:30am Wed 25 Jan
Wonderful! I've read many bad comments on here and am suprised. I feel this really showed us the true horror of world war 1. comments re its depressing?really? I always presumed ww1 was a really good laigh and loads of fun too??!!! Chocolatey6:10am Tue 24 Jan
Watching paint dry This programme was dreadful. Watching paint dry would be more compelling. Stilted acting. Dreadful meaningless long pauses. Will I watch next week - no, no no. Keith6:09pm Mon 23 Jan
If Only As Lovely As Birdsong I too found this far too slow and boring. I really wanted to like it but it was very depressing overall. Beautiful scenery though and Joseph Mawle was a high point. kevws7711:29am Mon 23 Jan
Actors wrongly cast Actors chosen were not suitable!! Isabelle was too young and beautiful, Lisette too ugly, Firebrace too old - only Stephen was spot on! But apart from that, good adaptation - LOVED the war scenes. Very realistic!
Welldone! PS loved the scenery as well... Beautiful!! Sabrine12:30am Mon 23 Jan
Dead Slow sad slow interpretation.
The book was good, and i expected far more than this brooding, slow take on the story. But full marks for the scenery. Agatha10:25pm Sun 22 Jan
Birdsong Series comment What a depressing series with no real story line and weak personalities. This series relies on gore and depressing scenes to try and make it work - it really doesn't ! magpie9:36pm Sun 22 Jan
